Toni Preckwinkle is the 35th President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the first Black woman elected to the office. Since 2010, she has led efforts to strengthen fiscal responsibility, transparency, and government services while restoring confidence in County government. President Preckwinkle oversees the nation’s second-largest county government, including major public health and criminal justice systems. Under her leadership, Cook County launched CountyCare, expanded economic development initiatives, and advanced criminal justice reform and community violence prevention efforts. A former Chicago alderman and history teacher, she is a lifelong advocate for equity, opportunity, and public service.
