Steppenwolf Theatre – Excerpts from the stage adaption of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daugther, author Erika Sánchez, playwright Isaac Gomez and Ensemble Members Sandra Marquez and Karen Rodriguez

June 9 from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Ensemble member Sandra Marquez and Karen Rodriguez will read selected scenes from the play and discuss the process of bringing this book to the stage with playwright Isaac Gomez. This is a special opportunity to hear this Chicago story come to life for the first time.

 

Erika L. Sánchez is the New York Times bestselling author of a young adult novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter (Knopf Books for Young Readers) and Lessons on Expulsion (Graywolf).

 

Isaac Gomez is an award-winning Chicago-based playwright originally from El Paso, Texas/Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. His play La Ruta received its world premiere at Steppenwolf Theater Company this Winter.

 

Sandra Marquez is an ensemble member at Teatro Vista and Steppenwolf Theater where she most recently directed the critically acclaimed production of La Ruta and played Ñora in A Doll’s House, Part 2. She’s on faculty at Northwestern and received a Clarence Simon Award for Outstanding teaching and mentorship.

 

Karen Rodriguez is a Chicago based actor and a proud Steppenwolf ensemble member. At Steppenwolf, she has appeared in La Ruta, The Doppelgänger, and The Rembrandt. Other credits include Breach (Victory Gardens); The Displaced (Haven Theater); Hookman (Steep Theatre); Blue Skies Process (Goodman Theatre); good friday (Oracle).

Hallie Gordon: Is the Artistic Director for Steppenwolf for Young Adults where she has been programming progressive work for high school students for over a decade. She is thrilled to be able to program I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter which will premier at Steppenwolf Theatre Spring of 2020.
