Mary Schmich is a former Chicago Tribune columnist, winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for commentary. One of her columns, known as Wear Sunscreen, was turned into a hit song by moviemaker Baz Luhrmann. That column and others are collected in her book Even the Terrible Things Seem Beautiful to Me Now. For 25 years, she wrote the comic strip Brenda Starr. She is also the host and writer of the 2025 podcast, Division Street Revisited, inspired by Melissa Harris and Studs Terkel.
