Andrew S. Curran is a prize-winning writer who argues the eighteenth century is still with us — its science, its ideas, its blind spots. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, and the New York Review Books. His new book, Biography of a Dangerous Idea: A New History of Race from Louis XIV to Thomas Jefferson, is a sweeping account of an idea that built the modern world. His previous books include the acclaimed biography of Diderot and Who’s Black and Why?, with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., winner of a 2023 AAP Award.
