Robert P. Baird is a novelist, journalist, and critic. In 2025, he published his debut novel, The Nimbus, which The New Yorker called one of the “Best Books of the Year” in 2025 and The Washington Post put on its list of notable fiction. His reviews and reporting have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, the Guardian Long Read, The New York Review of Books, The London Review of Books, The Paris Review, and other outlets. He grew up in Chico, California, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
