Erika Slife is a deputy metro editor for city and suburban news. Her team of award-winning reporters cover immigration, public safety, emerging trends and general assignment features. She began her career as an intern in Springfield, covering the Illinois State Capitol. Afterward, she worked as a reporter covering general assignment news in the south suburbs and Chicago before moving to the politics desk as the Chicago Tribune’s Cook County reporter. She’s been an editor since 2022. In 2026, she helped lead the paper in their Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of Operation Midway Blitz.
