David Saul Bergman is the pen name of Daniel Born, a Chicago-based writer and editor. Born taught English for forty years at institutions including Marietta College in Ohio, Dominican University, and Northwestern University, and served as a vice president at the Great Books Foundation. His hardboiled crime fiction includes Unpardonable Sins (2021) and Prodigal Sons: A Novel (2025). Both books feature Mennonite preacher and sleuth John Reimer. He is also author of The Birth of Liberal Guilt in the English Novel: Charles Dickens to H. G. Wells (1995) and editor of The Essential Dale Suderman Reader (2024).
